The time I won free concert tickets

Yep, I won FREE concert tickets last week.

To DAUGHTRY. I wouldn't say they are my favorite band...but I don't hate them either.

On Thursday last week, while at lunch, I was playing on my phone and browsing Twitter. The Des Moines Register had posted a contest giveaway for free tickets to Friday's Daughtry concert if you retweeted the tweet {follow all that twitter talk?} I thought, "hey, why not?" and re-tweeted......low and behold, I won!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

Tony was otherwise occupied with his softball league, and not all that excited about Daughtry. I called my friend Kim, and she was happy to be my guest.

We had a blast! We went downtown for a cocktail and a mocktail, and then hiked it a few blocks to Wells Fargo Arena for the concert. Turns out our seats were 5th row center. Not too shabby.

The opening acts were a bit diverse. The first guy seemed like he should be singing cover songs at a bar on a Friday night, but he was good.

He was fun, and threw his hat into the crowd after his set. Kim caught it.

The second opening act was not my scene. They seemed to be a mix of Muse and Red Hot Chili Peppers, both of which I like, just not together.

I knew a lot of Daughtry's songs after hearing them so much on the radio...and yes they do all sound the same. I still had fun.

Also included in my free tickets was a VIP experience before the concert. I was able to attend the sound check, listen to a few songs, and then get my picture taken with the band.

Not too bad for re-tweeting over my lunch hour!

Thanks Kim for coming with me, we always have such a great time hanging out.

Father's Day Weekend

Avery was in heaven this past weekend. She was surrounded by Grandparents. Tony and I both noticed how Avery is happiest when both her parents, and at least 1 set of grandparents are in the room with her. She just glowed all weekend....she also had that look in her eye that she was going to cause trouble...but that  happens several times a week!

My parents came down for Father's Day weekend, and we did all sorts of fun things. I showed them around some of the spec homes that I work on, and we went out to lunch. We grilled the best BBQ chicken I have ever had, and fixed the Mustang. We were busy.

Avery helping PaPa work on the tire of the Mustang.

After my parents hit the road back to Minnesota, we took a nap, and then headed over to Tony's parents to do some more Father's Day celebrating.

We had a great weekend. Tony was spoiled with great food, a sledgehammer {no joke, I got him a sledgehammer for Father's Day}, and family time.

Saturday in the Park

Last weekend we hosted some friends from college for a night. Chad and Sarah have a little man, Caleb, who is around 9 months older than Avery, and they got along great.

They rolled into town around noon, and Sarah and I headed off to a baby shower for our friend Beth {pics later}, and the kids went down for a nap.

3 hours later we come back, and the kids are still down for a nap...they both had great naps, so we headed off to the park behind our house.

Then the parents had some fun too.

then add kids...

We headed back to the house soon after this to figure out dinner. We introduced the Bartlett's to the wonder of TASTY TACOS, and we threw in some Casey's pizza for good measure.

{after I get some pictures from Sarah, I can post about the rest of our evening that included the firepit and heated discussions about iphones...}

The next morning, I enlisted the kids to help clean up the house...

They did a great job, and Caleb is a perfect pal for Avery. We enjoyed the weekend so much.

Bartlett's: You are welcome anytime!

{Sarah, send me pics please :)}

#2

We have some big news around Casa Bower...

We are expecting another baby!

The baby is doing great so far, and I am feeling better than I did when I was pregnant with Avery. Not much  morning sickness, just mainly fatigue, and I am starting to show a bit.

We are due around Christmas....12/26 to be exact. Avery was 3 days late, so who knows?!

This has been part of the reason that posts have been so few and far between. Dudes...I am tired. I didn't want to spill the beans quite yet, and I have been working a lot and hiding at home. I thought I was tired when I was preggo with Avery, and now that I am pregnant and have to chase after Avery....well that is a whole 'nother ball game.

We have been busy living life. Avery is growing every day, and I think she learns a new word everyday too. We found her this sweet ride on Craigslist from a nice family that only used it indoors. One session with Avery and it already showed more wear than when we bought it.

Needless to say, she loves it.

We went to a family wedding over Memorial Day weekend. Tony's cousin got married and it was a great time to get together with the Bower's.

Avery spent a lot of time on the dance floor, and dancing with Grandpa and Grandma.

and my personal favorite...

Anyone bored yet? I got lots more pictures...

Avery and I spent some time with our good friends Troy and Kim over Memorial Day too. Tony and Troy were golfing with friends, so Avery and I went over to play in the pool.

Kim looks a little miffed, but I promise you she is not. She has 2 kids, and one was on the loose...

these curls are just the cutest things..

Now, this next picture will worry me in 16 years...

But not nearly as much as this will...

Oy...I think I just agreed with Tony that she is not allowed to date until she is 30...

So that is what we have been up to. Making babies, working, cleaning up after Hurricane Avery, and playing outside.

what about you?
