1 Month

I am few days late on this, but I got some photos of Gavin being a month old already! Time is flying by. I have about a month left of maternity leave and it is going so fast! Here are some of the pics, and I posted 2 under his new tab up top. I couldn't decide, as I loved them both. Here are some outtakes!

Mom taught me this dance move called the sprinkler...how do I look?

Just hanging out...flexing my muscles..

What's up?!

Hey Ladies!

Read the Books

Avery's love of books has already trickled down to her little brother. I came into the kitchen to find her reading to Gavin and a stack of books on him while he was in his swing. We had to remind her about the rule of touching Gavin and the swing.

I still had to get a picture though...

It takes a village

The old saying it takes a village to raise a child really does ring true. We have been very blessed with help for our growing family the last 3 weeks, and I for one could not be more grateful. Tony was able to take 2 weeks off after Gavin was born, and my mom was here last week. Not to mention that Avery is still going to daycare a few days a week, and our friends and family have been great. This all leads to me admitting that as the mother of our 2 children, I haven't been alone with both of them for more than a few hours since Gavin was born....and I don't feel bad about it. I need some sleep with Gavin's schedule, and Avery still needs attention, structure, and a mother who can function. This would not be possible without our village.

It has been a fast 3 weeks since we became a family of 4 and we are adjusting pretty well. So here is where I attempt to catch you up in a photo dump...and go!

The week before we became 4...

The blizzard of 2012 strands us at home the day before we were scheduled to go into the hospital for our C-section. Our awesome neighbors come over with their snow blowers to help Tony clear the driveway so we can get out in the morning.

Avery and I also spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen making some cookies.

Gavin's Birth Day

Avery is up and in her Big Sister scrubs and ready to go with us to the hospital at 5am.

GAVIN STEVEN BOWER

Our hospital experience was much better this time around. We were much more informed regarding the
c-section, and our new OB practice was fantastic. We also loved* Methodist downtown for the c-section procedures and the staff. I think my mom made a new BFF with one of the nurses. They bonded over their love of knitting scarves, and they both have Soft Coated Wheaton Terriers.

Christmas 2012

Avery and her new American Girl Bitty Baby...she loves this thing.

As you can see, Gavin is clearly excited by all that Santa brought him...

Tony was really happy about a few of Gavin's gifts. My parents got Gavin some Brewers pacifiers and a piggy bank. They are now proudly displayed in his nursery.

Our babies on Christmas morning.

Maternity Leave so far...

Avery and her daddy spent some time outside

We had a breakfast date at I-hop. We were having a nice time with our little family enjoying some pancakes, french toast, and a pot of coffee, when were were treated to a very nice random act of kindness. We were finishing up our breakfast and taking our time getting ready to go when a man stopped by our table and put a $20 bill down. He said, this was all he could do, but thank you, and please pay it forward, and then in a flash, he was gone. We were a bit taken aback, and surprised. I was so moved, and still hormonal that I teared up. We left our very nice waitress a very nice tip.

My mom came down for a week and we did some activities. We made some cookies and pillows.

I just want to say how much my mom rocks. She comes down and lets me sleep in, although I really think she just wanted to hog my babies, but I will go with it ;)

She cleans up our house, does the dishes, makes dinner, and just generally helps out so that I can rest. She is awesome! She changed diapers, organized Gavin's clothes, and helped with some projects that have been on my to do list for months. The woman is a saint. Tony even commented that she is an excellent house guest if there ever was one after she left, because she is so low key and non-intrusive. High praise for a mother-in-law in my book!

Speaking of Gavin's clothes. Thank you to a great friend from back home for sending us boxes of clothes for our little man. There are more than he will ever wear, and we are grateful for them. We won't need to buy him clothes until he is 6-9 months old. Thank you, thank you, thank you Ellingson's!

I will try to do a better job of keeping up the blog, but for now, enjoy our 3 week recap and photo dump.

Gavin's baby pictures

Hello friends! We are doing well around here. Adjusting to the life of a newborn again, and chasing Avery around. It is exhausting, but we have never been happier. We got some photos done of baby Gavin, and the photographer captured some great shots of Avery too. We are thrilled with them.

After a terrible experience with the photographers at Methodist hospital, I contacted BELLA BABY PHOTOGRAPHY in hopes that we could talk them into coming over from Mercy to take Gavin's baby pictures. They instead offered to come to the house for 1/2 price later in the week, since they were so glad to hear from us, and that we were so happy with Avery's photos 2 years ago, we called them even though we delivered in a different hospital than where they are contracted.

{background info: we delivered at Mercy Des Moines for Avery and they use Bella Baby for newborn pictures, if the parents are interested. We delivered with Methodist downtown Des Moines for Gavin, and they contract another company. They were awful, and I would never recommend them to anyone. If interested, I can give more details}

This next one might be my favorite...Avery really does love the baby, she was just really tired, and didn't want to participate anymore.

After some fruit snacks, she was totally fine again.

More to come on our Christmas, and other happenings around Casa Bower. Things are starting to settle into more of a routine around here, and we are very happy....if a bit tired :)
