National Balloon Classic

We took the kids to a local event last night, called the National Balloon Classic, south of Des Moines. I had never been, and always wanted to go. It's a week long celebration of hot air balloons with special events.

We all had a great time, and it was perfect to take the kids to. Avery sat and watched as the balloons filled up, launched, and flew overhead, and Gavin got to run around and make new friends.

The contest last night was for the balloons to fly over a target and drop in a weighted stuffed polar bear to 4 baby pools. 80 balloons flew overhead that night. There were some really interesting shapes and patterns.

We ended up going as kind of a last minute idea, and we could not have asked for better weather, or better behaved kids. We have been having so much fun this summer with them, and the mild weather has allowed us to spend a lot of time outdoors.

I saw a review for the Outlander book series last summer and put it on my wish list of books to read {currently sitting at around 200 or so!}. Someone described it to me that if you open the book anywhere and read 3 pages, you won't be able to put it down.I decided to give it a shot and started reading over the 4th of July weekend.

I try to get more people to read the 'Outlander' series. If they don't seem interested, it it pains me to know that they are missing out on the greatest love story ever told. "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon.

I haven't been able to put it down. There are currently 8 novels in the series, and I just finished the 3rd. I have the 4th downloaded, but have not started it yet. I am staying up late, and reading at lunch. My kindle is never far from me now. I just can't stop reading them. They are so, so good.

Another pinner said: Diana Gabaldon's, Outlander Series Locations ~ Jamie and Claire Fraiser ~ Loved the books may have to see the sites! I absolutely love this series!

Well, most anything with Anglo-Saxon, history, intrigue, and royalty will pull me in. I see that Starz is producing a dramatic series about it, so now I have to see how much adding Starz to our cable package is gonna set me back.

Highly Recommend!

Our main man Gavin needs a proper hair cut. He has some flowing locks. We had trimmed up the back to get rid of his baby mullet, but never addressed the length anywhere else. It's time.

I am also considering cutting my hair again. I do this every summer. It's hot, and I hate how long it takes me to do my hair so I like it in the mornings. Obviously I should be getting up earlier to account for this. I should also be getting up earlier to work out. That's not happening either.

I liked how my hair was here...and how fast it was to do.

But then I remember how much I hated it when I was growing it out. then I think, it's only hair, and it will grow out. Then I think that fall is coming, and I like having long hair in the fall and winter. {mind you, today is July 23rd}. Clearly I am cray cray.

Fun on the Farm for 4th of July

We spent the long holiday weekend at my parents place again this year. With my brother's birthday on the 3rd and my mom's on the 4th, this has become an annual "stay-cation" to get together, play in the pool, and relax.

This was my view in the mornings as I had coffee with my parents and we visited.

Avery was prepared. Girlfriend was ready for the pool, or the 4 wheeler.

Picnic by Papa's pool...

The water was COLD!

The 4 wheeler...our new toy this year. I had more fun on this than I thought I would.

Papa with the little ones. Gavin is still not sure of Beah, but Beah LOVES Gavin!

Movies on the fence outside at night.

Some T-ball fun with the kids.

I just can't even put into words how much I love it here. To see my kids run around and play where my brothers and I played growing up, albeit the old farm building are now all torn down, it is just plain fun. We truly believe that Avery would spend all summer there and not even miss us a little bit. She might call to say hi, but she LOVES it there. I can't say I blame her...

has it really been a month?!? Father's Day weekend recap...

We have been in MN a lot. Tony had a bunch of commitments on Father's Day weekend, so I took the kids to see my dad.

My parents have been fixing up the area surround their pool. They added the fence this year.

So we had cocktails.

Gavin and his cousin Beah.

The girls made Papa breakfast in bed.

Happy Papa!

Then we hurried home to Daddy.
