Omaha Weekend Getaway

It has become a little tradition of ours to take a quick weekend getaway around our birthdays. It is a good time to let the kids get spoiled by grandparents and us to sleep in a hotel. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend. The kids had fun stuff to do with Grandparents and we had great weather.

After dropping off the kids at Tony's parents, and me getting my hair done at
we headed west to Omaha!

We got checked in to the hotel and went to a nearby AMC Imax theater to see Gone Girl. I had read the book and have been wanting to see the movie, and it looked suspenseful enough that Tony was interested too.

The theater was really nice. It had sets of leather chairs and a bar so you could take a cocktail into the movie with you. I might drive to Omaha each time we see a movie just because of this.

Saturday we slept in, and took our time getting up, just because we could. I was starting to miss the kids, but I have been missing a lazy Saturday morning lounging in bed more. After a late breakfast, and watching some college football, we played a par 3 golf course near the hotel.

Oddly enough were were the only ones on the Par 3, but more people came as we were finishing up.

My 3 clubs I carried around. I had to keep them near in case the badger we saw got rowdy. Apparently he lives under the club house and has evaded all forms of traps. Sneaky fella.

And the final score...IT should be noted that I have not golfed in at least 5 years.

We then went to the casino where we played for a bit and found a craps table. We had to leave the party to get ready for the rest of our night. Dinner plans at Firebirds,

and the late showing at the Funny Bone.

We may have witnessed the most awkward comedian ever, and not funny awkward.
Unfunny awkward.

Otherwise it was such a fun night. The food was great at Firebirds, and we had so much fun, just the 2 of us. Date nights are far and few between for us now, so this was much needed.

After staying up way past our bedtime, we headed  to Des Moines on Sunday to pick up the kids, and get back home. Since we got home around 1, everyone took a nap, and it was a clear sign we all had a great weekend!

Bachelor filming in Des Moines

Chris Soules, the next Bachelor has been filming in Des Moines for the past few days. Social media is all abuzz with photos, and news updates. I haven't watched the Bachelor/Bachelorette too much, but I will be tuning into the next season with Iowa being so prominently featured.

Friday night date at his hometown high school football game...

This is just down the street from Tony's office...

This mural was being painted by a local artist and will be featured on a date in downtown Des Moines

Camera crews outside the restaurant for the date.

Anyone else a Bachelor fan, or will be tuning in for the next season?

I was downtown to have lunch with Tony today and walked right by the new mural for the Bachelor and his date...

For Mother's Day, Tony got me a gift certificate for PENELOPIE BEAUTY BAR
They offer a variety of services related to hair and makeup. We are friends with one of the owners, and I have been dying to try it out, but didn't want to "waste" the blow out and style on a random Friday night of couch sitting and channel surfing.
My gift certificate was enough to cover the blow out and style. Since Tony and I were headed to Omaha for a weekend getaway, this was the perfect chance to try it out.

I was offered champagne upon arrival and waited a few minutes for my appointment to begin. I was then seated in a comfy chair to sip my champs and peruse an ipad with the hairstyle options I had to choose from. I selected a beachy wave style and was whisked off for a wash.

Once back, I ended up with 2 stylists working on my hair and chatting me up. I felt like a VIP!

The entire process took about 90 minutes, and it was such a fun and relaxing time!

It made my hair so easy to do over the next few days and I loved it. I noticed that they have specials on Wednesdays for $25 blowouts during the day, so I might be doing this every so often on my lunch break, since just the blow out takes about 45 min, and my hair dries fairly fast, so it might take even less time.

It was such a fun and thoughtful gift. Not something I would have thought to buy myself, but I loved it. I will be back.

Give it a try sometime!

A baby shower for twin boys...

This past weekend, I hosted a baby shower for some good friends who are expecting twin boys!

We had brunch with an egg scramble, coffee cakes, mixed fruit and meat and cheese. We made the Pioneer Woman's Orange Crush pound cake the night before, and my lord that was good. Will be making that one again!

I had planned out some party games that got us loosened up, and interacting with each other.

In addition to the "purse game" {where you get points for the random items in your bag},

 and the "pass the tray" game that I made up with Bower Baby favorites {where you have to try and remember each item on the tray...the most wins}

we did the frozen baby game.

I made up ice cubes {in my mini-muffin tins} with baby's in them. You used these in your drink, and when the baby breaks free from the ice, you shout "MY WATER BROKE!"

This was a fun way to keep the entertainment going as we ate brunch and opened gifts.

It was a great time for our friends Dan and Rochelle, and I am so happy that we were able to get them started off with some much needed baby gear!

I also held a diaper raffle, because we all know how many diapers they are going to need!

Big shout outs to my mom and BFF Ani for helping me set up, and my main hostess with the mostess, Avery for helping pass out games, and pens and generally being adorable. That is her hidden to the left with the long legs and the heels behind my mom. She had to get her party dress on, and asked if it was time for heels. Honey, it's always time for heels....

Catching up from the Pumpkin Patch

I posted some photos last week of our visit to the pumpkin patch near my parents place in SE Minnesota. Mom had been wanting to take the kids, and host a Fall Fest with their neighbors who have kids, and horses, and are great to hang out with.

I think the area around my parents hobby farm is beautiful anyways, but the fall crisp weather, changing leaves, and good company made for the perfect day.

My sister-in-law had games for the kids,

we grilled out,
we had a bonfire...

then we heard coyotes and all ran inside.
The End.

I will have more details on our "Fall Fest" weekend later this week, but here is a little bit of our weekend in movement.

Such a fun day!
